Why is important to learn how to write a report?
Candidates have a choice of task in the second part of the CAE writing test. The tasks provide candidates with a clear context, topic, purpose and target reader for their writing. The output text types are letter/email, proposal, report, review. There also is a word limit of between 220–260 words.
How to write a CAE report?
A report is a formal paper whose targets are to summarise information and create at least a recommendation. Hence, it has to be concise and well-organised through the use of bullet points and headings to make the reader can quickly find the information in the text.
More recommendations when writing a CAE report
- It is suggested the use of the impersonal writing style with when being possible, e. g., 'The aim of this report is to...'
- It is advisable to use neutral and/or academic vocabulary.
- Avoid the use of contractions, phrasal verbs and slang.
- The recommendation in the conclusion can be personalised, e. g., 'I strongly recommend...'
